Quick answer Price, length, stops, meeting point and the Monday and Tuesday catch

The ticket is shown at $22 per person, discounted from $44, and the day runs 11 to 12 hours. You go by coach to Peles Castle in Sinaia, then to Brasov old town for free time and lunch, and finally to Bran Castle, before about 2 hours 15 minutes back to Bucharest. Castle entry is not included, Bran and Peles each cost $21.04 (100 lei) for adults, paid on the day. You meet at the taxi stand on the main avenue next to the Grand Hotel Bucharest, 30 minutes before departure, and the coach does not wait. The deciding constraint is the castle calendar: Peles and Pelisor are closed on Monday and Tuesday all year and Peles closes for maintenance from November 2 to December 1, so you only see the outside.

Peles Castle in Sinaia

The first stop, about 1.5 hours by coach from Bucharest, is Peles Castle in Sinaia, a mountain resort in the Prahova Valley. It was the summer residence of Romania's first king, Carol I, built in German Renaissance style. The listing allows a visit with free time here, and entry costs an extra fee.

The closure calendar matters

Peles and the nearby Pelisor Castle are closed on Monday and Tuesday all year round, so on those days you only see the exterior. Peles is also closed for maintenance from November 2 to December 1. If seeing the inside matters to you, book for any day from Wednesday to Sunday and avoid that maintenance window.

Free Time in Brasov

After Peles, the coach runs about 1 hour on to Brasov for free time and lunch. The listing points you at the main square, the Gothic Black Church, the old City Hall and Rope Street, one of the narrowest streets in Europe. Brasov is a Saxon town, known in German as Kronstadt, at the foot of the Carpathians.

This is the only meal stop of the day, since lunch is not included. It is also the most flexible part of the itinerary. You can eat, climb to the Black Church or just sit on the square.

If Brasov is the part you enjoy most, note that the tours that start from Brasov give you far more time there, such as the Bran Castle, Rasnov Fortress and Peles Castle Small-Group Tour from Brasov.

Bran Castle at the End of the Day

The Dracula link, honestly

Bran is sold abroad as Dracula's Castle, but the connection is marketing. There is no evidence that Bram Stoker knew of Bran, and his fictional castle bears no resemblance to it. Vlad the Impaler does not seem to have had a significant role in the fortress's history, although he passed several times through the Bran Gorge.

What you actually get is a 14th-century castle, built by the Saxons of Brasov after 1377, with narrow staircases, hidden passages and the collection of Queen Marie of Romania. That is a good visit on its own terms.

For the castle's history and the Dracula question, see the Bran Castle article on Wikipedia.

Where the Coach Meets

The coach leaves from the taxi stand on the main avenue next to the Grand Hotel Bucharest. Be there 30 minutes before departure.

Who This Day Fits

This is the right pick if price is your main filter and you are comfortable in a large coach group. It is also the most reviewed Dracula Castle day from Bucharest, which says something about how many people take it. The itinerary order changes with season, weather and opening hours, and on unlucky days delays can mean seeing only the outside of one castle.

It does not fit everyone. The listing rules:

  • Not suitable for children under 7
  • Not suitable for pregnant women
  • Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments
  • Not suitable for people with pre-existing medical conditions, visually or hearing impaired travellers
  • Unaccompanied minors are not allowed
  • One small handbag or backpack per person, no oversize luggage, no pets, no alcohol or drugs

This Coach Day or the Three-Castle Day?

Two Bucharest coach days in the catalog look alike on paper and cost almost the same. Both leave from central Bucharest, both see Peles, Bran and Brasov, and both leave every castle ticket to you. The differences are the fourth castle, the guiding and the age rule, and they decide which one fits your group.

Which one to book

Stay with this coach day if you travel with children aged 7 to 17, since the 3 castles tour from Bucharest is listed as not suitable for anyone under 18. Either way, carry about $42.08 (200 lei) per adult for the Bran and Peles tickets, and plan a Wednesday to Sunday date so that Peles is open inside.
